NHRC Takes Suo Motu Cognizance – Justice for the Minor Victim

Justice for the Innocent

NHRC steps in after horrifying delay and loss in Bihar

🔍 What Happened?

On June 1st, 2025, a tragic case shook the conscience of the nation. A 9-year-old rape survivor from Muzaffarpur, Bihar died after reportedly being denied timely treatment at PMCH, Patna. She had been waiting for hours in an ambulance — critically injured, but unseen.

⚖️ NHRC Steps In

Recognizing this as a severe human rights lapse, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took suo motu cognizance and demanded accountability. It has issued notices to:

  • Chief Secretary, Bihar
  • Director General of Police, Bihar

A detailed report is expected within two weeks to explain the inaction and procedural delay.

📢 Allegations That Cannot Be Ignored

Media reports reveal that the same accused had previously assaulted another young girl. Yet no sufficient preventive action was taken. The negligence of the medical system only compounded the horror.

"No child should ever suffer — and die — because help came too late."

🚨 A Call to Action

Hospitals must adopt zero-delay protocols for trauma victims. Children deserve immediate protection, care, and dignity. Our institutions — medical, legal, and social — must work with urgency, not apathy.

💬 Every life matters.
Speak up. Demand change. Silence is not protection — it’s complicity.
Let this case not fade away like so many others. Justice is not only for the victim — it’s a mirror for society.
