Objective of the Mock Drill

The primary objective of the mock drill is to train civilians, students, and others in civil defence techniques for protection during a hostile attack. The exercise will also test the readiness of control rooms, shadow control centers, air raid warning systems, and hotline/radio communication links with the Indian Air Force.

Key Features of the Mock Drill

  • Activation of Air Raid Warning Sirens: Sirens will be sounded in designated areas to simulate an air raid scenario.
  • Training of Civilians: Civilians will be trained in basic self-protection measures, including evacuation procedures and emergency response.
  • Crash Blackout Measures: Power outages and blackout simulations will be conducted to test the effectiveness of emergency response systems.
  • Camouflaging of Critical Infrastructure: Vital plants and installations will be camouflaged to minimize damage in the event of an attack.
  • Evacuation Plan Rehearsal: Evacuation plans will be rehearsed to ensure a swift and safe response in emergency situations.

Preparation and Participation

The mock drill will be conducted in 244 designated 'civil defence districts' nationwide, involving various agencies, including:

  • Civil Defence Wardens: Trained personnel will oversee the mock drill and provide guidance to participants.
  • Home Guards: Home guards will participate in the exercise, providing support to civil defence personnel.
  • National Cadet Corps (NCC) Cadets: NCC cadets will take part in the mock drill, gaining valuable experience in emergency response.
  • National Service Scheme (NSS) Volunteers: NSS volunteers will participate in the exercise, contributing to the success of the drill and gaining valuable experience.

What to Expect During the Mock Drill

  • Brief Power Outages: Temporary power outages may be implemented to simulate emergency situations.
  • Mobile Signal Disruptions: Mobile signals may be disrupted to mimic real-life emergency scenarios.
  • Traffic Rerouting: Traffic may be diverted to ensure safe passage and minimize disruptions.
  • Public Announcements: Public announcements will be made to inform participants about the drill and provide instructions.
