Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions

Nationwide Enforcement Drive

Making Educational Institutions Tobacco and Substance-Free

Why This Is Important

India has one of the youngest populations in the world. Protecting our youth is crucial for building a Viksit Bharat.

The Government’s Response

The Ministry of Education is implementing the Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) Guidelines.

  • Display of 'Tobacco Free Area' Signage
  • Display of ‘Tobacco Free Educational Institution’ Signage
  • No Evidence of Tobacco Use
  • Display of Awareness Materials
  • At Least One Tobacco Control Activity Every Six Months
  • Nomination of Tobacco Monitors
  • Inclusion of Tobacco-Free Policy in School Code of Conduct
  • Marking a yellow line 100 yards around educational institutions
  • Ensuring no shops sell tobacco products within that zone

A Month-Long Enforcement Drive

Starting May 31, 2025, States and UTs are urged to launch a month-long enforcement drive.

Community Involvement

School Management Committees, teachers, and parents play a vital role in this mission.
