North East Apprenticeship Pilot Scheme

Overview of the Initiative

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) launched a strategic pilot scheme to promote apprenticeship training in the North Eastern Region (NER). This initiative aims to provide structured, paid, and high-quality apprenticeship opportunities to youth across the region.

Key Features

Over 26,000 youth will receive an additional ₹1,500 per month for one year under this pilot initiative, ensuring that mobility does not become a barrier to accessing opportunities.

Financial Support: A total of ₹43.94 crore has been earmarked for outreach, capacity building, and project implementation.

Shri Jayant Chaudhary emphasized the importance of real industry exposure for youth, while Shri Lalduhoma highlighted the collaboration's potential to empower young citizens in Mizoram and the wider North East.

Implementation and Partnerships

The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) will oversee the implementation, supported by local institutions.

Memorandum of Understanding

A Memorandum of Understanding was exchanged between NSDC and Welspun Living Limited to operationalize a high-impact pilot initiative for apprenticeship-linked skilling in the textile sector.
